What is intrapreneurship? Who is and who isn't an intrapreneur?
Intrapreneurship refers to the mindset of successful workers who proactively aims to generate more value to companies by creatively leveraging the resources around them. This can include leveraging manpower from within or other companies, existing office equipment and efficient uses of the budget assigned.
A common misconception is that only people who wish to start businesses or have strong business senses are intrapreneurs. In fact, people who have heightened powers of observations and are willing to proactively generate additional value for businesses can all be classified as intrapreneurs.
For example, a computer technician can be classified as an intrapreneur if he/she is sensitive towards recurring problems in computers and constantly takes the initiative to propose creative solutions to solving them more efficiently by leveraging resources around him/her.

However, another computer technician who only focuses on completing his/her set of daily tasks at work and seldom proposes ways to generate additional value for the company will not be classified as an intrapreneur, as he/she does not possess a proactive, resourcefulness mindset.

Are intrapreneurs inborn or can anyone become an intrapreneur?
Another a common misconception is that intrapreneurs/entrepreneurs are hard to come by. Intrapreneurship is almost always learnt, not inborn, and anybody can and should become an intrapreneur.

Again, intrapreneurship refers to the mindset of workers who proactively and creatively leverages resources around them to generate additional value to companies. Everybody can learn to become more proactive and commercially minded at work. In fact, intrapreneurship can lead to high job satisfaction rates, as intrapreneurship can help generate a sense of ownership to the work being done.

Should I be afraid of hiring intrapreneurs? Why should I hire intrapreneurs?
Don't worry, intrapreneurs are not going to steal your business idea and run away with it. They aren't going to simply come up with creative ideas without an action plan.

Employers should absolutely hire intrapreneurs. Again, intrapreneurship refers to the proactive and resourcesful mindset that an individual possesses, which every employee should arguably have in order to enjoy working. Employees who simply want to complete their tasks and do not emotionally invest in the growth of their companies will usually lead to lower workplace morale and have a higher tendency to quit.

Intrapreneurs will also develop a higher sense of belonging to the workplace due to the sense of ownership they have from the work they do, leading to higher employee retention rates, lowering recruitment & HR costs. This is not to mention that their creativity, commercial-mindedness and ability to innovate will bring in newer, more creative ideas and solutions for companies, leading to business growth.
